Mark W. McDonough, DMD

Dr.jpgYour beautiful, healthy smile is my passion. It's what I do every day and why I chose to become an orthodontist more than 23 years ago. I have been blessed with the greatest job in the world! To date, our office has “Made Great Smiles Happen” for over 6,000 patients, from children as young as age 6 to adults as old as 78, and many teens and those in between too! Whether we are treating a patient in the office or I am teaching the next generation of orthodontists, it is the same great feeling. There is no greater joy than to help create a happy and healthy smile.

Editor of "Orthodontic Practice – US.” This is a national journal which promotes excellence in orthodontics and covers a full range of clinical and practice management topics. My most recent publications for this journal include:

Pioneering Innovative Technology

Our goal is to be an early adopter of new technology in the orthodontic profession in order to provide patients with the best and most convenient results. We were among the first orthodontists to incorporate digital photographs and digital X-rays for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes. We have used dental lasers for many years to painlessly reshape gum tissue. One of the current ”new topics” in orthodontics is temporary implants to move teeth in a manner not previously possible. I saw the promise of temporary implants and first used this technology in 2002, and it is just now becoming a ”standard of care” elsewhere. However, our office has been judicious in the use of technology since not every ”new fad” has value for our patients.

Patients are like Family

Medical decisions should be easy. If you take the approach to treat every patient as if it was your parent, sibling or child, the decisions you make become easier. Our patients are our family. We are delighted to welcome every patient into our office and enjoy getting acquainted with each one. My team and I take pride in maintaining a friendly and warm office environment, and strive to provide comfortable and convenient care, so that patients of all ages feel comfortable at our practice.

Family and Other InterestsDr-1_RESIZED.jpg

For 25 years, I have been married to my wonderful wife Mary Beth. We have been blessed with three amazing daughters. As a triathlete, I have completed 2-4 triathlons a year since 1988 (over 85 triathlons total!). Most recently my oldest daughter and I completed the Atlantic City Half Iron Man Triathlon in September 2016. I have also completed two New York City marathons and the 500-mile Anchor House Bicycle Ride for Runaways. My other interests include surfing during the summers at the Jersey Shore and skiing in the winter. I have enjoyed coaching youth lacrosse, soccer and softball in the Hopewell Valley Recreation Leagues since 2002.

Giving Back

Our office believes in supporting the local community. Over the years, we have made considerable contributions to our great family of patients, friends and neighbors. We have sponsored local sports teams, and supported numerous foundations and/or organizations that support education, promote leadership and enrich lives.
